Good Sports Books for Summer

Every summer twelve year olds from around the U.S. and the world gather in Williamsport, Pa., for the Little League World Series. Before teams even get to this round they must compete in the local City Series. Six Innings tells the story of one of these games and the 24 boys who meet for 6 innings on the field. Each of the twelve chapters tells the story of every half inning of the game in exacting detail. The characters and situations all seem very real. Both the boy who only wants to hit and the boy who hopes desperately for a walk come to life in this short masterpiece. In pivotal situations the author actually bases the events on famous half-innings from playoff games. The details from these games and almost every game ever played are available from retrosheet.org. You might want to check it out.

Sports fans, Six Innings is a can't miss, even if you don't love baseball. For baseball lovers it's a slam dunk (excuse the mixed metaphor) Let me know about other sports books you would recommend for this summer.

  3. I recommend Crash. Crash Coogan is a football star and all he does is care about himself. What happens to him?

  4. I Was a Non-blond Cheerleader is not exactly a book on sports, but it has cheerleading. A girl named Annisa Gobrowski transfers from New Jersey to California and goes to an all blond school. She only realizes that when she gets there and on top of that she is a brunette! All Annisa wants to do is fit in with the other girls in school. But ends up doing horrible stuff to them by accident like breaking one of the popular girls' nose! She starts to try harder and ends up trying out for the cheerleading squad, but finds out that all the girls are on the team. will Annisa be able to pull herself together and fit in? you will just have to read I Was A Non-blond cheerleader! Did i mention she likes the boyfriend of one of the most popular girls???
